Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Senior Support Worker to support the Line Manager in ensuring the effective placement, care, and support of young people aged 16-18 at Birmingham. The Senior Support Worker will play a pivotal role in maintaining high standards of care, compliance with statutory regulations, and fostering positive relationships with young people, their families, and professionals. This role also includes responsibility for key working, auditing care management systems, and ensuring robust communication with social workers and external agencies.
Key Responsibilities
● Placement Oversight – Support the Line Manager to ensure all placements are suitable, safe, and meet the individual needs of each young person in accordance with policies and current regulations.
● Key Working – Act as a key worker for assigned young people, providing consistent, person-centred support and developing tailored key working plans to address their needs, aspirations, and outcomes.
● Relationship Building – Build trusting, professional relationships with young people, empowering them to achieve their goals and develop life skills for independence.
● Communication & Reporting – Prepare and send weekly house reports to social workers and relevant professionals, ensuring all information is accurate, timely, and confidential.
● Care Management System – Audit and maintain the live care management system, ensuring all records are up-to-date, accurate, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
● Meeting Attendance – Attend and contribute to review meetings, professionals’ meetings, and other relevant forums alongside the Line Manager, advocating for the needs and progress of young people.
● Compliance & Quality Assurance – Ensure all support provided is in line with Ofsted, local authority, and Birmingham guidelines, maintaining high standards of safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection.
● Team Support – Provide guidance and support to junior staff, promoting best practice and a positive working environment.
● Continuous Improvement – Participate in ongoing training and development, staying up-to-date with relevant legislation and best practices in supporting young people aged 16-18.
Person Specification:–
● Experience – Previous experience supporting young people in a residential or semi-independent setting, ideally with supervisory or senior responsibilities.
● Knowledge – Sound understanding of safeguarding, care standards, and relevant legislation (e.g., Children’s Act, Ofsted frameworks).
● Skills – Excellent communication, organisational, and IT skills; ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
● Personal Qualities – Empathetic, resilient, team player, committed to the rights and welfare of young people.
● Desirable- NVQ Level 3 (or above) in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People) or equivalent. Experience using digital care management systems.
