FULL JOB DESCRIPTION

We specialise in care for elderly people often living with physical and/or mental conditions/disabilities, including severe Dementia who have high needs and require assistance with all aspects of their physical and mental well-being.
A Carer will be required to:
· Carry out all aspects of care for our service users including personal care. This includes washing, toileting, hoisting (where necessary), dressing, bathing, feeding and attending to specific care needs
· Attend to service users’ physical medical health needs such as skin tears, ulcers, assistance with mobility, oral hygiene, feeding etc
· Attend to service users’ mental health needs such as communication, activities, understanding
· Assist with medication when necessary
· Attend to service users’ mental and physical well-being
· Record all care daily using the Person-Centred Software
· Liaise with other healthcare professionals including District Nurses, Social Workers, the GP, Consultants, Physiotherapists, etc
· Liaise with service users’ families and friends
· Assist with infection control practices and procedures
· Assist the Registered Manager and Senior Carers in the running of the home
· Provide Dementia Focussed care, including:
– Using effective communication techniques tailored to the needs of the individual with dementia
– Recognising signs of distress, agitation or anxiety and responding appropriately
– Supporting meaningful activities that stimulate memory, promote inclusion and enhance quality of life
· Comply with Health and Safety requirements, including:
– Following care plans on PCS the electronic system provided for accurate recording
– Observing and reporting changes in service users’ health or behaviour promptly
– Maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming environment in accordance with infection control standards
· Ensure teamwork and professional practice, including
– Working collaboratively with colleagues, families and healthcare professionals
– Attending regular training, supervisions and team meetings
– Respecting service users’ confidentiality and always maintaining professional boundaries
A Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 2 (previously NVQ Level 2) and some experience in care is desirable, but not necessary.
Hours of work
Part Time to include some weekend working on a rota basis
