FULL JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Youth Support Worker in Tower Hamlets’ Rapid Response detached team, you will deliver preventative street-based interventions targeting serious violence, knife crime, gangs, and antisocial behaviour for young people aged 11-25 across the borough. Working under Senior Youth Workers, you’ll plan/deliver high-quality outreach sessions, build voluntary relationships, manage caseloads, conduct safety assessments, mediate tensions, and collaborate with multi-agency partners including evenings/weekends outdoors in all weather. This vital role supports the council’s 2022-2026 Strategic Plan through responsive harm reduction, community reassurance, and strengths-based youth development in one of London’s youngest, most diverse boroughs.

You’ll contribute to universal safe spaces, targeted support, and specialist provisions while modelling inclusive, anti-discriminatory practice rooted in youth work values, equality, and social justice.

Your Responsibilities include:

• Support planning/delivery/review of detached youth work sessions and location-based safety assessments.

• Build relationships, deliver 1-1/group work, manage caseloads promoting safety/wellbeing/development.

• Maintain young people’s/volunteers’ safety via risk assessments, records, and safeguarding escalation.

• Collaborate on mediation, real-time incident response, and multi-agency harm reduction efforts.

• Participate in supervision, training, quality assurance, and evening/weekend outdoor deployments.

Work Schedule

15 hours/week (12 positions) or 30 hours/week (4 positions).

Regular evenings, weekends, outdoor work in all weather conditions.

You Will Have 

• Skilled in detached youth work, risk assessment, and restorative approaches.

• Strong relationship-building for 1-1/group interventions with diverse 11-25 year olds.

• Multi-agency collaboration experience addressing violence/gangs/ASB.

• Commitment to youth work values, equality, social justice, and inclusive practice.

Requirements

• Weekend/evening availability for street-based outreach.

• Ability to work safely in high-risk community environments.
