FULL JOB DESCRIPTION

As Lead Veterinary Surgeon at Animal Trust’s newest St Helens hospital, you will guide a team of vets through coaching and mentoring while ensuring high clinical standards, embedding core values, and creating a caring work environment. Working alongside the Practice Manager and Lead Nurse, you’ll evaluate clinic KPIs, P&L performance, and drive day-to-day operations in a state-of-the-art facility offering first opinion, referral, and out-of-hours care with 9 consulting rooms, 3 theatres, digital X-ray, dental suite, and separate cat/dog wards. This leadership role supports Animal Trust’s non-profit mission to deliver affordable veterinary care through free consultations and transparent pricing.

The hospital’s modern diagnostic suite, isolation unit, and efficient workflow design enable varied caseloads while you mentor clinical excellence and business success in a community-focused practice.

Your Responsibilities include:

• Coach and mentor veterinary team members to maintain exceptional clinical standards.

• Lead 1-2-1 meetings, performance management, staff meetings, and clinical governance.

• Evaluate clinic KPIs, P&L, and operational performance for continued success.

• Embed Animal Trust values, fostering a nurturing, inclusive working environment.

• Collaborate with Practice Manager and Lead Nurse on daily clinic operations.

Work Schedule

38 hours over a 4-day week.

2 in 9 Saturdays.

You Will Have 

• Passion for coaching, mentoring, and team leadership.

• Exceptional communication with clients and veterinary teams.

• Confidence leading staff and clinical governance meetings.

• Business acumen for KPIs and P&L assessment (preferred).

Requirements

• Qualified veterinary surgeon with strong clinical expertise.

• VetGDP qualification (or willingness to obtain).

• Experience in 1-2-1 meetings and performance management.
