Accountant

£45,000 – £55,000 per annum

We’re looking for a highly skilled and commercially aware Accountant who can do more than simply manage the numbers. This senior technical role offers the opportunity to help shape our entire finance function as the business continues to grow.

You’ll play a key role in strengthening the financial performance of the business, leading on management accounts, forecasting, budgeting, cashflow control, and ensuring full compliance across VAT, tax and statutory reporting. You will also oversee payroll administration, accounts payable and receivable, procurement financials, insurance processes, and financial systems, acting as the key point of contact with external Accountants, auditors, HMRC and financial partners.

We’re looking for someone who brings expertise, fresh ideas and a proactive approach – someone who can develop strong financial controls, improve internal systems, and help support well-informed decision making across the organisation.

The Role:

The Accountant is expected to drive best practice in financial management and reporting to maximise efficiency, compliance and growth. They will work closely with and report to the Company Directors, providing high-quality financial insight, reliable data and strong technical leadership within the finance function.

The holder of this role will help the team to improve performance, strengthen financial controls, and avoid costly mistakes that could impact the organisation. They will effectively communicate financial processes to colleagues and maintain rigorous standards across all financial activity.

They will lead on producing management accounts, budgets, forecasts, VAT returns, tax submissions, payroll oversight, financial reconciliations and cashflow reporting. They will also manage insurance processes, financial systems (including QuickBooks), procurement financials, and act as a key liaison point for auditors and HMRC.

This role is full-time, based on-site in our Derby office.
Remote and hybrid working are not a consideration at this time.
Part time hours could be considered for the right candidate.

Qualifications / Knowledge / Experience:

  • Minimum of 3–5 years in a finance or accounting role with demonstrable experience producing management accounts
  • Maths and English at GCSE level (minimum grades C / 4 or above)
  • A relevant Accounting qualification (AAT Level 4 minimum; ACCA/CIMA part-qualified desirable)
  • Advanced Excel skills and confident use of financial systems (QuickBooks desirable)
  • Strong understanding of VAT, tax compliance, payroll processes and financial regulations
  • Experience reconciling accounts, managing budgets and analysing financial data
  • Proven organisational and analytical/problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of GDPR guidelines
  • Experience improving financial processes and internal controls
  • Experience liaising with auditors and preparing year-end documentation is desirable

Additional Information:

  • 28 days holiday (including Bank Holidays)
  • Full-time, on-site role
  • 40 hours per week, 52 weeks, Monday to Friday
