The School Health Care Assistant (HCA) will work closely with the School Nurse to support the health and wellbeing of students and staff at PWH. This role requires a compassionate, organised, and proactive individual who can assist with medical care, administrative duties, and communication with families and external health teams.

  • Assist the School Nurse in the day-to-day care of students and staff.
  • Administer emergency medication as trained.
  • Support diabetic students with carb counting and pump input when required.
  • Be willing to train in injection techniques for diabetic care.
  • Fulfil the role of a first aider, providing basic first aid to pupils and staff where necessary.
  • Take clinical observations (temperature, blood pressure, pulse) and report findings.
  • Assist in weight clinics and other health monitoring activities.
  • Accompany students with medical needs on offsite school trips.
  • Be familiar with emergency protocols and assist during emergency callouts (blue pen alerts).
  • Maintain infection control and hand hygiene standards.
  • Support medication audits and stock checks.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical records.
  • Liaise with parents, carers, teachers, and external health professionals.
  • Complete admin requirements and record keeping in line with school policies (CPOMS/WeAreEvery/etc)
  • Communicate confidently via phone and email.
  • Assist with scheduling and coordinating vaccination visits.
  • Ensure the medical suite is clean, organised, and well-stocked.
  • Prioritise tasks effectively within the nursing suite
