The School Health Care Assistant (HCA) will work closely with the School Nurse to support the health and wellbeing of students and staff at PWH. This role requires a compassionate, organised, and proactive individual who can assist with medical care, administrative duties, and communication with families and external health teams.
- Assist the School Nurse in the day-to-day care of students and staff.
- Administer emergency medication as trained.
- Support diabetic students with carb counting and pump input when required.
- Be willing to train in injection techniques for diabetic care.
- Fulfil the role of a first aider, providing basic first aid to pupils and staff where necessary.
- Take clinical observations (temperature, blood pressure, pulse) and report findings.
- Assist in weight clinics and other health monitoring activities.
- Accompany students with medical needs on offsite school trips.
- Be familiar with emergency protocols and assist during emergency callouts (blue pen alerts).
- Maintain infection control and hand hygiene standards.
- Support medication audits and stock checks.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical records.
- Liaise with parents, carers, teachers, and external health professionals.
- Complete admin requirements and record keeping in line with school policies (CPOMS/WeAreEvery/etc)
- Communicate confidently via phone and email.
- Assist with scheduling and coordinating vaccination visits.
- Ensure the medical suite is clean, organised, and well-stocked.
- Prioritise tasks effectively within the nursing suite
