FULL JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Peer Support Worker in a Dartford Low Secure Unit, you will use your lived experience of mental health recovery (minimum 12 months without services) to inspire, encourage, and support service users with severe conditions like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality disorder, substance misuse, and PTSD who are detained under the Mental Health Act. You’ll build strong relationships, help set realistic goals, share experiences through group programs, promote independence, and act as a role model while collaborating with forensic mental health experts to reduce stigma and enhance recovery journeys. This rewarding role within a ‘Good’ rated CQC Trust serves over 2,000 hospital and 54,000 community patients across Kent and Medway.

You’ll contribute to joined-up care in hospital/community settings, guided by values of caring, inclusive, curious, and confident practice that help communities not just live with mental illness, but live well.

Your Responsibilities include:

• Build supportive relationships and empower service users to set positive, realistic goals.

• Share recovery experiences through group programs and one-on-one support.

• Complete administrative tasks, liaise with community services, and promote mental health awareness.

• Support service development and user involvement while maintaining confidentiality.

• Escalate concerns and collaborate with multidisciplinary forensic mental health teams.

Work Schedule

Part-time hours within Low Secure Unit operational needs.

Flexible based on service requirements in secure forensic environment.

Compensation

 £26,240 – £27,928 per year + High-Cost Area Allowance (5% basic salary, min £1,258 max £2,121 annually)

Requirements

• 12 months without mental health service use prior to applying.
