Overview

We are currently recruiting a compassionate, dedicated and enthusiastic Residential Support Worker to join a children’s residential home in Colchester, Essex.

We are looking for someone with at least 1 year’s experience working in a children’s residential care home, ideally with 1–2 years of hands-on experience supporting children and young people.

Key Responsibilities

As a Residential Support Worker, you will:

• Provide high-quality, person-centred care to children and young people.
• Create a safe, welcoming and nurturing home environment.
• Support young people with their daily routines, emotional wellbeing and personal development.
• Build positive, trusting and professional relationships with young people.
• Encourage independence, confidence, education and essential life skills.
• Support young people with appointments, activities and community engagement.
• Follow individual care plans, risk assessments and safeguarding procedures.
• Manage challenging situations calmly, professionally and appropriately.
• Maintain accurate daily records, observations and incident reports.
• Work closely with colleagues, management and external professionals.
• Promote positive behaviour, safeguarding and the wellbeing of every young person.

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have:

• A minimum of 1 year’s direct experience working in a children’s residential care home.
• Previous experience supporting children and young people in a residential setting.
• Good knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• A caring, patient, reliable and professional approach.
• Confidence in supporting young people with emotional and behavioural needs.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a residential care team.
• The right to work in the UK.

Please note: Previous experience specifically within children’s residential care homes is essential. Applicants with experience solely in adult care or domiciliary care will not meet the experience requirement.
