Support Worker – Shrewsbury

£12.90 per hour | Full-time, Part-time & Bank | No experience required | Full training provided

Looking for a job where you can genuinely change someone’s life?

What if your job wasn’t just about getting through a shift, but about helping someone discover what they’re capable of, experience things they may never have had the opportunity to do before, and build a life that is meaningful to them?

At SEAH, that’s what being a Support Worker is all about.

We’re looking for Support Workers, Care Workers, Healthcare Assistants and people with great people skills to join our team in Shrewsbury, supporting young adults with learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs and acquired brain injuries in supported living and within the community.

Some of the young people we support have spent significant parts of their lives in institutional settings, with very limited opportunities to make their own choices or experience everyday life in the community.

Our job is to help change that.

For some people, that means helping them develop the skills and confidence they need to eventually live more independently.

For others, they may always need some level of support — and that’s okay too.

Independence doesn’t look the same for everyone.

Our role is to understand what a good life looks like for each person and help them achieve as much choice, freedom, confidence and enjoyment as possible.

What does a Support Worker actually do?

No two days are the same.

You’ll get to know the person you’re supporting — their personality, interests, communication, strengths, challenges and ambitions — and help them build a life around the things that matter to them.

That could mean:

  • Supporting someone to learn how to cook their own meals
  • Helping develop everyday life skills
  • Supporting shopping, budgeting and household tasks
  • Helping someone learn to use public transport
  • Supporting people to access their local community
  • Going out for coffee, shopping, walks, activities or hobbies
  • Supporting people to attend medical appointments, education or work
  • Helping someone build confidence and develop their independence
  • Supporting people to make their own choices and decisions
  • Encouraging friendships and social opportunities
  • Helping someone discover new interests and experiences
  • Providing emotional and practical support when someone is having a difficult day
  • Building positive, trusting relationships
  • Supporting health, wellbeing and personal goals
  • Using Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approaches to understand someone’s needs and support them effectively
  • Working alongside colleagues, families and other professionals to provide person-centred support

Sometimes you’ll be helping someone work towards a big goal, such as living more independently.

Sometimes the achievement might seem small to someone else — catching a bus for the first time, cooking a meal, choosing what they want for dinner, going somewhere new or having the confidence to try something different.

Those achievements can be huge for the person you’re supporting.

We’re not here to do everything for someone

It’s tempting to think that being a Support Worker means doing things for people.

At SEAH, we see it differently.

We’re here to help people do things for themselves wherever possible.

That means encouraging, teaching, prompting and supporting — rather than taking over.

We want people to have choice, control and as much independence as possible, while making sure they have the support they need to be safe, happy and well.

And independence doesn’t have to mean living completely without support.

For some people, the goal might be moving into their own home with minimal support.

For someone else, it might be being able to choose their own clothes, prepare a meal, go shopping or enjoy a day out with the right support around them.

Whatever independence looks like for that person, we’re here to help them get there.

Why work for SEAH?

We’re not interested in simply providing care.

We want the people we support to have choice, control, independence and opportunities in their own lives.

Our approach is person-centred and informed by Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). We take the time to understand the people we support, including their communication, strengths, interests, needs and goals.

You’ll have the opportunity to build genuine relationships and become an important part of someone’s life.

And we believe our staff should receive the same support.

When you join SEAH, you’ll be supported to learn, develop and progress in your career.

What you’ll receive

  • £12.90 per hour
  • Full-time, part-time and bank contracts
  • 35-hour, 28-hour and 21-hour contracts available
  • Early and late shifts
  • Optional sleep-in shifts
  • Enhanced Bank Holiday rates
  • Overtime opportunities
  • Fully funded induction and training
  • Fully funded Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4 Health & Social Care qualifications
  • Ongoing Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) training
  • Regular support from experienced managers and colleagues
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Health and wellbeing support
  • Company pension
  • Team member referral scheme
  • Recognition and reward for outstanding work
  • Additional annual leave for long service
  • Casual dress
  • Genuine opportunities for career progression and development

Previous experience as a Support Worker, Care Worker, Healthcare Assistant, Personal Assistant, Support Assistant or in social care is useful, but it’s not essential.

We’re also interested in people who have experience in:

  • Retail
  • Hospitality
  • Customer service
  • Education
  • Teaching
  • Childcare
  • Healthcare
  • Mental health services
  • Emergency services
  • Community work
  • Volunteering

Maybe you’ve worked in care before.

Maybe you’re looking for your first job in health and social care.

Maybe you’ve spent years working in hospitality or retail and know you’re good with people.

Or maybe you’re simply someone who is patient, encouraging and genuinely enjoys helping others.

If you have the right attitude and values, we’ll teach you the rest.

What makes a great SEAH Support Worker?

We’re looking for people who are:

  • Kind, caring and compassionate
  • Patient and understanding
  • Reliable and responsible
  • Positive and enthusiastic
  • Calm and resilient
  • Good communicators
  • Comfortable working as part of a team
  • Respectful of people’s choices, dignity and privacy
  • Motivated to promote independence
  • Willing to learn and develop
  • Genuinely interested in helping people achieve their goals
  • Prepared to think creatively and try different approaches
  • Able to celebrate progress, even when progress happens in small steps

You don’t have to be perfect.

You don’t need to know everything when you walk through the door.

You just need to care about doing a good job, treating people with respect and helping someone have the best life possible.
