About the Role
We are looking for an experienced, reliable and organised Support Worker / Supported Accommodation Officer to join our supported accommodation service across Birmingham and Solihull.
This is a varied role combining resident support, property management, inspections, administration and general day-to-day operational duties.
The successful candidate will need to be comfortable working independently, travelling between properties and using their own initiative. You will become an important part of the day-to-day running of our accommodation and will be expected to maintain high standards across both resident support and property management.
This role would suit someone who has experience as a Support Worker but is also practical, organised and confident taking responsibility for tasks without needing constant supervision.
Main ResponsibilitiesResident Support
● Providing one-to-one support to vulnerable adults
● Carrying out regular support sessions and welfare checks
● Supporting residents to achieve their individual goals and maintain independence
● Building professional and appropriate relationships with residents
● Maintaining clear professional boundaries
● Completing support notes and resident records
● Monitoring residents’ wellbeing and reporting concerns
● Identifying and reporting safeguarding concerns
● Recording and reporting incidents appropriately
● Liaising with councils, professionals, support services and other agencies where required
Property Management & Inspections
● Carrying out regular room inspections and property inspections
● Checking bedrooms, communal areas and general property condition
● Completing inspection forms and taking photographs where required
● Identifying and reporting maintenance, damage and health and safety issues
● Checking that properties are clean, tidy and maintained to an appropriate standard
● Helping prepare rooms for new residents
● Cleaning and preparing rooms following resident move-outs
● Removing rubbish and unwanted items following move-outs
● Checking furniture, fixtures and equipment
● Reporting missing or damaged items
● Taking meter readings where required
● Assisting with preparing properties for new referrals and new residents
● Helping ensure properties are ready for council, housing provider or other professional visits
General Management & Administration
● Assisting with the day-to-day management of the supported accommodation
● Keeping property and resident records accurate and up to date
● Completing forms, reports, checklists and other documentation
● Using Microsoft Word and PDF documents
● Organising electronic documents and information
● Keeping track of outstanding repairs and property issues
● Following up routine operational matters
● Communicating issues promptly to management
● Travelling between properties throughout Birmingham and Solihull
● Managing your daily workload independently
● Using initiative to identify problems and find practical solutions
● Carrying out other reasonable duties required for the smooth running of the service
Essential Requirements
You must:
● Have a minimum of 1 year’s experience working as a Support Worker with vulnerable adults
● Have experience supporting adults with a range of support needs
● Hold a full UK driving licence
● Have access to your own reliable vehicle
● Be willing to travel between properties in Birmingham and Solihull
● Have appropriate motor insurance
● Be confident using Microsoft Word and PDF documents
● Have good written and spoken English
● Be able to complete accurate professional records
● Be reliable, punctual and well organised
● Be able to work independently and manage your own workload
● Have an understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries
● Be comfortable carrying out practical property-related duties, including room inspections and cleaning rooms following move-outs
● Be willing to complete required training and follow company policies and procedures
Desirable Experience

● Homelessness/housing support experience
● Mental health support experience
● Substance misuse support experience
● Experience working with vulnerable adults
● Experience carrying out property or room inspections
● Experience with housing or property management
● Knowledge of safeguarding procedures
● Experience working with local authorities or other professional services
IT Requirements
You must be comfortable using:
● Microsoft Word
● PDF documents
● Basic electronic record keeping
Having your own laptop would be an advantage but is not essential.
Driving & Business Travel
The role involves travelling between supported accommodation properties in Birmingham and Solihull.
You will be required to use your own vehicle for work-related travel.
Business mileage will be reimbursed in accordance with the company’s mileage policy.
You must have:
● A full UK driving licence
● A reliable vehicle
● Appropriate business-use insurance
● A valid MOT where applicable
References & Pre-Employment Checks
Applicants must be able to provide two suitable employment references.
At least one reference should be from a previous employer where you worked in a Support Worker role.
Any offer of employment will be subject to satisfactory:
● References
● Right-to-work checks
● DBS check at the appropriate level for the role
● Other relevant pre-employment checks
Probation & Training
The successful candidate will be employed on a permanent contract subject to a 6-month probationary period.
During the probationary period, performance, reliability, conduct, attendance, suitability for the role and ability to carry out both resident-support and operational duties will be reviewed.
You will be expected to complete any training considered necessary for the role and to follow all company policies, procedures and instructions.
Emergency & Additional Duties
The normal working hours are Monday to Friday, 10:00am–5:00pm.
From time to time, the role may require you to respond to an urgent operational or property issue outside normal working hours, where reasonably necessary.
This is not intended to be a regular part of the working week, and any additional working arrangements will be managed in accordance with your employment terms and company policy.
