FULL JOB DESCRIPTION
Are you thinking of developing a career in clinical psychology? We are looking for an enthusiastic, bright and motivated psychology graduate to join our Community Eating Disorders Service (EDS). The EDS is a Trust-wide service that operates from bases in Southampton, Portsmouth and Basingstoke. Hybrid working can also be considered.
Under supervision of either a Clinical Psychologist or Cognitive Behaviour Therapist, you will be involved in the delivery of individual and group based psychological interventions for people with eating disorders. There are various opportunities for you to become involved in our FREED (First Episode Rapid Early Intervention for Eating Disorders) pathway, our Family and Friends’ Group and to develop skills in the delivery of both Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Dialectical BehaviourTherapy. You will also be involved in the running of research projects and audit activity within the service. We are a friendly and supportive team, and we have a strong commitment to supervision, CPD and joint working with a range of other agencies.
You should hold a psychology degree (at least a 2:1) and have some previous experience of working in a mental health setting. An enthusiasm to learn and work as part of a busy team is essential. You will also need to have good communication skills and be confident in your computer skills. This post offers an excellent opportunity for candidates who wish to gain useful experience prior to applying to clinical training courses.

Across Hampshire, our community hospitals provide inpatient rehabilitation as a step down from acute care, and our dedicated teams also staff Treetops Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Portsmouth, offering expert, compassionate support.

Your Responsibilities include:
• providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist or cognitive behaviour therapist
• working independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified psychologist or cognitive behaviour therapist and within the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures.
• The postholder will also assist in clinically related administration, audit, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.

• High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive.
• Ability to communicate sensitive information to patients, carers and colleagues.
• An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems or other disabilities.
• An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health context
• An understanding of psychology applied to health care.
• Ability to accept and use supervision appropriately and effectively.

• Experience using microcomputers for databases or data-analysis, especially SPSS for Windows.
• High standard of report writing.
• A desire to explore a career in professional Psychology.
Requirement
• An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology.
• Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.
• Full UK Driving Licence
• Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
• Work with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities.
• Experience of delivering low intensity psychological interventions.
• Experience of paid work in direct care provision.
