Summary
The Medical Day Unit is within the division of Specialty Services and Surgery. The Unit is laid out with 11 spaces. Three trolley beds and 8 reclining chairs in a treatment bay. The Unit provides care for a variety of patients from Rheumatology, Gastroenterology, Renal, Clinical Sciences, Neurology, Endocrinology, Dermatology Respiratory, Hepatology and supports Research and Development.
The Unit provides therapeutic and maintenance care for patients who are planned to attend for a variety of procedures including blood tests, diagnostic investigations, blood transfusion, infusions, including biologic infusion, biopsy, drains and breath tests.
Working on this unit will provide opportunities to develop new clinical skills of phlebotomy, cannulation and drug administration, professional knowledge of inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, vasculitis, neuropathy, anaemia, iron overload and endocrinology investigations or allow an individual to consolidate existing professional knowledge, and skills. It is an expectation to develop the clinical skill of cannulation within a month of employment.
Main duties of the job
MDU is a Nurse led unit assessing patients with specific protocols to ensure safe administration of planned prescribed treatments.
Preparing and administering intravenous, subcut and oral medication , cannulation and vemnsepuncture skills areb required
patients are booked on an inpatient clinic system
