Overview
We are seeking a reliable, compassionate, and resilient Support Worker to provide high-quality community-based support to a complex service user. The individual requires 2:1 support due to significant physical behaviours that can challenge. Support will take place within the family home and in the community, working in partnership with the service user’s mother, who acts as the second carer during all morning calls.
The ideal candidate will be patient, calm under pressure, confident in supporting behaviours that challenge, and committed to promoting the person’s wellbeing, independence, and safety at all times.
Responsibilities
- Provide person-centred support to a service user with complex needs and physical behaviours that can challenge.
- Work as part of a 2:1 support team, communicating effectively with the family and colleagues.
- Support with morning routines, personal care, mobility, and daily living tasks as required.
- Encourage engagement in meaningful activities and community access while ensuring the safety and dignity of the service user.
- Follow behaviour support plans, risk assessments, and care plans consistently.
- Use appropriate de-escalation techniques and maintain a calm, professional approach.
- Maintain accurate records and share relevant information with the team as required.
- Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and promote the rights and choices of the individual.
- Attend training relevant to the role, including behaviour management and physical intervention (if required).
Working Hours
This is a part-time position, including every other weekend. Support is required at the following times:
Morning Calls (Monday–Friday) – 2:1 Support with Mum as Second Carer
- 07:15 – 08:45 (One staff member + mum)
Afternoon/Evening Support
- Monday: 16:00 – 18:00
- Tuesday: 16:00 – 18:30
- Wednesday: 16:00 – 19:00
- Thursday: 16:00 – 19:00
- Friday: 16:00 – 18:00
Weekend Support (Every Other Weekend)
- Saturday: 16:00 – 19:30
- Sunday: 09:00 – 16:00
Essential Requirements
- Experience supporting individuals with complex needs or challenging behaviours.
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliability and commitment to agreed working hours, including alternate weekends.
- Willingness to follow structured support plans and training guidance.
Desirable
- Training in behaviour support or PBS.
- Experience with physical intervention (training is provided).
- Full UK driving licence
