FULL JOB DESCRIPTION

As Brightside expands in to Gateshead, we are growing our bank of staff who are looking for occasional work to cover staff holidays and sickness. This could be around existing employment, childcare responsibilities or be suited to individuals who are looking for the flexibility of occasional work.

We are seeking professional and personable individuals who are motivated and enthusiastic about working with young people with additional needs. The hours of work available could be 9.30-3.30, 7.30-9.30 or 7.30-6

JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY:

· To provide a high standard of person centred support to adults with additional needs

· To enable members to maximise their potential, supporting skill development and social engagement

· To communicate effectively when dealing with group members, team, families and outside agencies.

· To participate and contribute to the maintenance, evaluation and continuing development of Brightside

MAIN DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Communication and Relationship Skills

· Provide a professional and high standard of care and support to those who use Brightside services.

· To communicate with all staff, external professionals, group members and their families in a courteous, diplomatic and discreet manner, using communication methods appropriate to the individual.

General Responsibilities

o To ensure that all Health and Safety requirements are fulfilled.

o To seek advice and guidance from management when required.

o To promote a consistently positive image of the organisation and behave in a professional manner at all times.

o To keep records in line with service policy

o To ensure detailed knowledge of the organisation’s policies and procedures, including Adult and Child protection procedures.

o To treat each individual with respect and dignity at all times.

o To contribute towards the maintenance of open and positive relationships.

Teamwork

· To support teamwork by providing a consistent, person centred approach when working with individuals and other staff members.

· To fully utilise communication systems to ensure seamless provision of support.

· To feedback any issues to management in a timely manner.

Knowledge Training and Experience

· Please see Person Specification for details. In summary, relevant qualifications and practical experience of the support worker role.

· To undertake all mandatory training as required by service or other relevant bodies.

· To ensure that full use is made of the supervision and appraisal system to ensure that skills, knowledge and experience are gained in order to provide the highest quality of provision to individuals in receipt of support.

· To regularly update knowledge of the organisation’s policies and procedures as directed by management

· To be responsible for alerting management to training or support needs as required.

· Ensure that legal requirements are followed regarding the handling of records.

Please note that this position requires an enhanced DBS disclosure and 2 professional references, one from the most recent employer.

The suitable candidate must be physically capable of fulfilling the requirements of the role, including personal care, participating in outings that involve walking and pushing wheelchairs

This salary is subject to an increase from 1st April, however the amount is yet to be confirmed.
