FULL JOB DESCRIPTION

Hours: Full-time/Part-time (including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays as required)

We accept skilled worker who are already in the UK and require a CoS.

Job Purpose

To support adults with mental health needs to live as independently as possible, promoting recovery, well-being, and inclusion. The role involves working alongside service users to build daily living skills, access the community, and achieve personal goals in line with individual support plans.

Responsibilities

Direct Support to Service Users

Provide day-to-day support with independent living skills such as cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and personal care (where required).

Support service users to engage in meaningful activities, education, employment, and social opportunities.

Encourage self-confidence, resilience, and choice in everyday decision-making.

Assist with medication prompts and monitoring in line with policy.

Respond calmly and appropriately to challenging situations and mental health crises.

Care & Support Planning

Contribute to the development and regular review of personalised support plans.

Support service users to set and work towards achievable goals.

Monitor and record progress, wellbeing, and risks, reporting concerns promptly.

Health, Safety & Safeguarding

Ensure a safe and supportive living environment.

Be vigilant to safeguarding concerns and report in line with procedures.

Support with risk assessments and follow agreed risk management plans.

Teamwork & Communication

Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, carers, and professionals (e.g. social workers, mental health teams).

Attend staff meetings, handovers, supervision, and training as required.

Maintain accurate and timely records, reports, and documentation.

Person Specification

Essential

Experience (paid, voluntary, or personal) of supporting people with mental health needs or in a care/support setting.

Empathy, patience, and the ability to build trusting relationships.

Good communication and teamwork skills.

Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.

Commitment to equality, inclusion, and promoting independence.

Desirable

NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care (or willingness to work towards).

Understanding of recovery-focused practice.

Basic IT and record-keeping skills.

Knowledge of safeguarding and mental health legislation.
