FULL JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Purpose
As a Mental Health Support Worker at Freesia Health, you will provide person-centred, compassionate, and practical support to individuals experiencing mental health difficulties. Working under the supervision of registered clinicians, you will assist in implementing care plans, supporting recovery goals, and ensuring a safe, supportive environment for service users in both outpatient and home treatment settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Build therapeutic relationships with service users, fostering trust and respect.
- Support individuals in managing symptoms and improving daily living skills.
- Assist in the delivery of care and intervention plans developed by the clinical team.
- Promote service users’ independence and involvement in decision-making.
- Monitor and report changes in service users’ mental state, mood, and behaviour to the clinical team.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and case reviews.
- Provide emotional support, guidance, and practical assistance (e.g., with appointments, medication prompts, or community engagement).
- Support crisis intervention as part of the Home Treatment Team (where applicable).
- Maintain clear, accurate, and timely documentation and records.
- Adhere to safeguarding policies and report concerns appropriately.
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and recovery-oriented environment.
Essential Criteria
- Experience working in mental health, social care, or a related field.
- A good understanding of mental health conditions and recovery principles.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Empathy, resilience, and a non-judgmental approach.
- Ability to work flexibly, including evenings or weekends if needed.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic IT literacy for note-taking and email correspondence.
Desirable Criteria
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (Mental Health) or equivalent.
- Previous experience in community mental health, crisis services, or supported living.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and risk management.
- First aid or Mental Health First Aid certification.
