FULL JOB DESCRIPTION

GitHub seeks an experienced Staff Software Engineer for their Git Storage team powering the world’s largest code-hosting platform. This remote role focuses on designing, developing and operating highly scalable microservices, protocols and control systems that serve Git repositories to 180M+ developers, with emphasis on AI-driven software development infrastructure.

Your Responsibilities include:

• Designing/developing high-quality technical solutions scaling across GitHub services with deep system ownership.

• Documenting architectures, running experiments, prototyping and leading code reviews for GitHub-scale performance.

• Coordinating with engineering/product teams to prioritize/deliver projects while maintaining live service operations (on-call rotation).

• Mentoring team members and providing technical leadership across distributed global engineering teams.

Work Schedule

Full-time remote position.

You Will Have

• 7+ years software engineering experience (degree dependent) with production software in C/C++, Java, Go, Rust, Python or similar.

• Excellent written communication skills for asynchronous global collaboration.

• Experience with large-scale system architecture, distributed systems and microservices.

Requirements

• Ability to pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check (required every 2 years).

• Cloud platforms (Azure/AWS), production monitoring/observability experience.
