FULL JOB DESCRIPTION

Join the MRC Biostatistics Unit’s 2026 Summer Internship Programme contributing to cutting-edge research across five themes Biostatistical Machine Learning, Causal Mechanisms, Efficient Study Design, Precision Medicine, and Population Health while gaining exposure to statistical methodology development for biomedical applications. This 8-week full-time position starting 29th June 2026 targets 2nd/3rd year undergraduates or recent graduates in Mathematics/Statistics, requiring intermediate R programming skills and biomedical curiosity, with successful applicants ranking top three projects from Further Particulars in their cover letter. Funded by NIHR, interns participate in theme activities, group meetings, and career development exploring biostatistician roles, based in Cambridge without accommodation provided (limited travel/support budget available).

Your Responsibilities include:

• Conduct research contributing to one of five biostatistics research themes.

• Participate in theme activities, group meetings, and methodological discussions.

• Apply intermediate R programming to biomedical statistical projects.

• Rank top three preferred projects with motivation in cover letter application.

Work Schedule

Full-time Monday-Friday.

8 weeks starting 29th June 2026.

Based in Cambridge (no accommodation provided).

You Will Have 

• Strong quantitative background from mathematics/statistics education.

• Eagerness to learn statistical methods for biomedical research.

• Ability to rank projects and articulate research motivations clearly.

• Interest in biostatistician career development opportunities.

Requirements

• 2nd/3rd year undergraduate or recent graduate in Mathematics/Statistics (strong quantitative focus).

• Intermediate R statistical programming knowledge.

• Curiosity for biomedical applications (no prior medical stats required).

• Right to work in UK; Cambridge-based availability.
