FULL JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Children’s Residential Support Worker with Kites Children’s Services, you will help provide a safe, nurturing, and traumainformed home for children who have experienced adversity. You will support children with their daily routines, education, activities, and emotional wellbeing, creating a stable environment where they can feel heard, valued, and able to heal and grow. This role is ideal for compassionate, resilient adults who are committed to safeguarding and who want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children every day.

You will work as part of a dedicated team, using traumainformed approaches and consistent, positive relationships to promote each child’s safety, regulation, and sense of belonging. Full training is provided, so while experience in residential childcare is welcome, what matters most is a genuine passion for supporting children and the emotional resilience to stay calm under pressure.

Your Responsibilities include:

• Build trusting, positive relationships with children through consistency, empathy, and respect.

• Support children with daily routines, including getting ready for school, mealtimes, bedtime, and personal care where required.

• Encourage and facilitate engagement with education, hobbies, and meaningful activities that promote growth and confidence.

• Use traumainformed practice to help children feel safe, understood, and supported in managing their emotions and behaviours.

• Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and external professionals to promote each child’s wellbeing and progress.

• Keep accurate records, contribute to care plans and risk assessments, and follow all safeguarding procedures.

• Promote a warm, homely environment where children feel a sense of belonging and stability.

• Act as a positive role model, championing each child’s strengths and potential.

Work Schedule

Full-time role.

Flexibility required to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, nights and sleepins, in line with the needs of the home.

Work location: in person at the children’s home on London Road, WestcliffonSea SS0 9HR.

You Will Have 

• A genuine passion for supporting children and helping them heal, grow, and thrive.

• Emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm and thoughtful under pressure.

• Strong communication skills and a reflective, teamfocused approach to practice.

• Willingness to learn and engage with traumainformed approaches and ongoing training.

• Experience in residential childcare is welcome but not essential, as full training is provided.

Requirements

• Flexibility to work a rota including evenings, weekends, nights and sleepins.

• Strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
