Summary
Junior Copywriter & Direct Response Marketing Assistant
Part-Time to Full-Time | Remote | Reports to Editor-in-Chief
About The Kindness Company
The Kindness Company publishes monthly print newspapers for readers who are tired of endless scrolling and algorithm-driven content. Our publications—including Knit Nation, Crochet Nation, Baking Nation, History Nation, and Gardening Nation—deliver curated, screen-free content to a passionate audience of 55–75-year-olds. We’re growing fast, with new titles launching this year, and we need a sharp, hungry copywriter to grow with us.
The Opportunity
This isn’t a “write some social captions” job. This is a ground-floor opportunity to join a fast-growing publisher and build a career in direct response marketing. You’ll start part-time or full-time writing copy that sells—Meta ads, emails, video scripts—and quickly move into a full-time Sales & Marketing Lead role as you prove yourself and grow into the position.
We’ll train you. We’ll invest in you. And we mean that—this is not a short-term contract or a stepping-stone role. We’re looking for someone who wants to build a long-term career with us. We’re going to pour real time, mentorship, and resources into your development, and we want someone ready to grow with this company for years to come. But you need to show up with a foundation: a genuine love for direct response copy, an understanding of why it works, and the drive to get better every single day.
What You’ll Do
Starting Responsibilities:
Write direct response copy for Meta image ads targeting 55–75+ audiences
Draft email marketing sequences (welcome flows, re-engagement, promotional campaigns)
Write UGC-style video scripts that feel authentic and drive subscriptions
Test headlines, hooks, and offers—then analyze what’s working and iterate
Collaborate directly with the Editor-in-Chief on messaging strategy and creative direction
As You Grow Into the Role:
Own social media strategy and content across all publications
Manage affiliate marketing partnerships and campaigns
Lead A/B testing and conversion optimization across all marketing channels
Build and manage a marketing calendar aligned with editorial launches
Contribute to the marketing strategy for new publication launches
Who You Are
You’ve studied direct response copywriting and can talk about why it works. You know who Dan Kennedy, Gary Halbert, Eugene Schwartz, and David Ogilvy are—not because someone told you to Google them, but because you’ve actually read their work.
You understand the difference between brand copywriting and direct response copywriting, and you’re drawn to the latter.
You have a writing portfolio or samples that show you can write persuasive, clear copy—even if it’s spec work, personal projects, or self-study exercises.
You’re comfortable using AI tools (like Claude or ChatGPT) as a resource to accelerate your work—but you understand that YOU are the strategist, the copywriter, and the decision-maker. AI is a tool, not a crutch.
You’re coachable, hungry, and take feedback well. You don’t need hand-holding, but you’re not too proud to learn.
You have strong attention to detail and can manage deadlines without being micromanaged.
What We Offer
A clear growth path from Junior Copywriter to full-time Sales & Marketing Lead—this is a long-term position, not a gig
Direct mentorship from the founder in direct response strategy and growth in sales and marketing—we’re genuinely investing in your career
A front-row seat to a publishing company scaling from 5 to 10+ titles
A small, mission-driven team where your work actually matters
Quick Fit Check
This role IS for you if:
You light up when you find a headline that converts
You’d rather write one email that sells than ten that “build awareness”
You see AI as an incredible tool that makes you faster and better—not something that replaces thinking
You want to build something, not just fill a seat
You’re looking for a company to grow with long-term, not a resume line
This role is NOT for you if:
You think “copywriting” means writing Instagram captions
You can’t explain what a lead magnet is or why a P.S. line matters
You want a role where you clock in, follow a template, and clock out
You rely on AI to do your thinking for you instead of using it as a force multiplier
How to Apply
Send us a message:
Telling us why direct response copywriting excites you and what you’ve done to study it. Who is your favorite direct response copywriter of all time and why?
2–3 writing samples.
Include the phrase “spring is coming.”
Are you able to work full-time? If not, what hours do you have available each week?
Benefits:
- Work from home
Work Location: Remote
