Lead QA Data Engineer – Build Trust at the Heart of Our Data Platform
18 month Fixed Term Contract
Ready to shape how data quality is engineered, not just checked?
If you’re passionate about building trustworthy data at scale, embedding quality into modern data platforms, and leading others to do the same, this is your opportunity to have a genuine, enterprise‑wide impact.
As our Lead QA Data Engineer, you’ll sit at the heart of our data ecosystem – defining how data quality, testing, and assurance are designed into pipelines from day one. This is a senior, influential role, responsible for safeguarding the accuracy, reliability, and credibility of the data that underpins reporting, analytics, and decision‑making across the business.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll lead the strategy and implementation of data quality engineering across our data platforms, moving us beyond reactive checks towards automated, scalable, and proactive quality assurance.
Working closely with Data Engineers, Architects, Analysts, and Product teams, you’ll define standards, frameworks, and best practices — while also remaining hands‑on where it matters most. You’ll champion “quality by design”, ensuring data is reliable, governed, and production‑ready before it reaches consumers.
This role plays a critical part in protecting the integrity of our analytics and data products, and in building confidence across the organisation in how data is created, tested, and consumed.
Responsibilities
● Own and lead the end‑to‑end data quality and testing strategy across data pipelines and platforms.
● Design and implement automated testing frameworks for batch and streaming data pipelines.
● Define and enforce data quality rules, metrics, and monitoring across key datasets.
● Integrate data testing and validation into CI/CD pipelines and engineering workflows.
● Partner with Data Engineers to review pipeline design, transformations, and schema changes.
● Lead root‑cause analysis for data incidents and drive long‑term preventative improvements.
● Establish documentation, standards, and governance processes for data quality and assurance.
● Mentor and develop engineers, embedding strong quality engineering practices across teams.
Interested? Here’s What You’ll Need to Be Successful
● Strong experience in data engineering or QA data engineering within modern data platforms.
● Proven expertise in automated data testing and validation (e.g. expectations‑based frameworks).
● Advanced skills in Python and SQL, with a solid understanding of ETL/ELT and data modelling.
● Experience working with cloud data platforms (e.g. Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery).
● Deep understanding of data quality, governance, lineage, and observability concepts.
● Confidence influencing technical and non‑technical stakeholders at senior levels.
● Experience leading, mentoring, or setting standards for other engineers.
