Registered Manager – Children’s Home
Overview
We are seeking an experienced, committed, and child-focused Registered Manager to lead our children’s home. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall management of the home in line with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, the Quality Standards, and Ofsted requirements, ensuring high-quality care and positive outcomes for children and young people.
Role Overview
As the Registered Manager, you will have full operational responsibility for the children’s home, ensuring it is safe, nurturing, and well-led. You will provide strong leadership, maintain regulatory compliance, and promote a culture of safeguarding, learning, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Register with Ofsted as the Registered Manager and maintain ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements
- Ensure the home consistently meets the Quality Standards and demonstrates effective leadership and management
- Lead, motivate, and manage the staff team effectively through clear direction, supervision, and support
- Act as a role model of good practice, maintaining high professional standards at all times
- Manage challenging behaviour safely and effectively, in line with individual care plans and behaviour support strategies
- Ensure safeguarding practices are embedded, monitored, and followed at all times
- Maintain clear, effective communication with children, staff, families, placing authorities, and external professionals
- Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant record keeping, reports, and monitoring using electronic systems
- Use IT systems confidently to manage care records, audits, rotas, compliance documentation, and Ofsted requirements
- Promote staff development, reflective practice, and continuous improvement
- Ensure the home is well organised, stable, and effectively managed within a regulated environment
Essential Criteria
- Minimum of 1 year’s experience in a management, supervisory, or leadership role within a children’s residential or regulated children’s setting
- Strong understanding of the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Ofsted expectations
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong organisational skills and experience operating in a regulated environment
- Strong IT skills, with the ability to confidently use electronic care management systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft applications
- Proven ability to manage challenging behaviour effectively and safely
- Ability to motivate, inspire, and direct staff to deliver high-quality care
- Commitment to being an example of good practice to the wider staff team
- Ability to adapt, learn, and grow, demonstrating reflective and resilient leadership
- Level 3 in childrens residential care (or equivalent)
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent), or willingness to undertake and complete the qualification while in post
