About us
Visa sponsorship: Available for suitably qualified candidates (Skilled Worker route)
WZ Law is a London legal consultancy that has served individual and corporate clients since December 2024. We advise on immigration, civil litigation, employment, and landlord and tenant matters.
Immigration is one of our primary service areas. We provide reserved legal services in partnership with OneLaw Chambers, an SRA-regulated firm. Many of our clients are Mandarin, Cantonese or Japanese speakers, and we aim to make UK legal services accessible to clients who face language barriers or are unfamiliar with the UK legal system.
The role
We are recruiting a Solicitor to manage a caseload of contentious and advisory matters across civil litigation, employment and immigration law. The postholder will work closely with the Director of WZ Law and with the barristers and solicitors of OneLaw Chambers, and will have direct client contact from the outset. Immigration law is central to our practice, so the successful candidate will be expected to develop their knowledge of UK immigration law and practice. Training and supervision will be provided.
Key responsibilities
Advising individual and corporate clients on civil litigation, employment, immigration and related matters.
Working closely with the Director and with OneLaw Chambers’ barristers and solicitors on case strategy, advice and the delivery of reserved legal services
Running files from instruction to conclusion under supervision, including case analysis, strategy and costs advice.
Assisting with immigration matters, including Skilled Worker and sponsor licence applications, family and settlement applications, and responses to Home Office requests for further information.
Drafting pleadings, witness statements, skeleton arguments, applications, representations and inter partes correspondence.
Managing disclosure, evidence and expert workstreams in accordance with the CPR and Tribunal rules.
Preparing trial and hearing bundles, chronologies and briefs to counsel, and attending hearings, mediations and client meetings.
Conducting legal research and producing clear written advice.
Taking instructions from, and advising, Mandarin-speaking clients, and checking translated documents.
Complying with SRA Standards and Regulations, anti-money laundering, client-care and file-management procedures.
Essential requirements
Admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales (newly qualified candidates welcome).
A law degree or equivalent, and completion of the SQE or LPC route.
Experience of contentious work, ideally including commercial litigation and/or employment disputes.
A willingness and aptitude to learn UK immigration law and practice.
Strong drafting, research and case-management skills, and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
Professional fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese (written and spoken)
High standards of accuracy, integrity and client care, and the ability to work collaboratively with senior lawyers
Desirable
Experience or academic study of UK immigration law.
Experience of High Court, Employment Tribunal or arbitration proceedings.
Experience of bilingual or cross-border disclosure.
Knowledge of Cantonese, Shanghainese or another Chinese dialect.
What we offer
Competitive salary of £52,000
28 days’ annual leave (including bank holidays).
Workplace pension
Close mentoring from the Director and experienced barristers and solicitors at OneLaw Chambers.
Structured training in immigration law and support for continuing competence.
Varied, client-facing work in a growing practice.
