Job Type: Part-time, 20 hours per week

Work location:Coventry, England

About Verto Living

Verto Living is a family-run supported accommodation provider supporting vulnerable adults across Coventry. We work with people facing a range of challenges, including homelessness, substance misuse, mental health difficulties, offending histories and social exclusion.

Our aim is to help people move from survival to stability and towards independence. We do this by providing good-quality accommodation, robust safeguarding and person-centred support that makes a real difference to people’s lives.

As we continue to grow, we are looking for a female Support Worker to join our team.

About the Role

This is a community-based role working exclusively with female residents across our women’s supported accommodation in Coventry.

You will have ownership of two to three of our women’s properties, getting to know the residents and providing their day-to-day support. You will also cover for colleagues during annual leave, sickness and other absences, supporting female residents in our other women’s properties when their usual worker is away.

The role is 20 hours per week, usually worked as 10am to 2pm Monday to Friday, although we can be flexible on how the hours are arranged. During periods of staff absence there will be opportunities to increase your hours, up to full-time, by agreement. This makes the role well suited to someone who wants steady part-time work with the option of extra hours when they are available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of support across two to three women’s properties, building positive working relationships with residents and keeping their support consistent.
  • Provide cover for colleagues during absence, picking up caseload work for female residents in our other properties.
  • Deliver one-to-one support sessions.
  • Develop, implement and review support plans.
  • Complete risk assessments and contribute to risk management planning.
  • Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns in line with company procedures.
  • Support residents to access healthcare, benefits, housing services, employment, education and community resources.
  • Accompany residents to appointments where required.
  • Carry out welfare checks and property visits.
  • Keep accurate and timely records using company systems, with clear handovers when covering for colleagues.
  • Liaise with external agencies, including social workers, probation, health professionals, housing providers and community organisations.
  • Support residents to build practical life skills such as budgeting, managing their tenancy, cooking and independent living.

Our Values

Our values shape how we support residents, look after our homes, work with partners and treat one another. We look for people who will bring them into their work every day.

  • Respect in every interaction. We treat everyone with dignity, fairness and consideration, listen, communicate honestly and keep clear, appropriate boundaries.
  • People at the heart. We see the person, not just their referral, history or support needs, and we respond with compassion, curiosity and common sense.
  • Take ownership. We do what we say we will do, keep people updated, raise concerns promptly and put things right when they go wrong.
  • Raise the standard. “Good enough” is not where we stop. We take pride in our work, learn from feedback and invest in our own development.
  • Stronger together. We support our colleagues, share information appropriately and work constructively with partner agencies, always keeping the resident’s safety and wellbeing at the centre.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Access to your own vehicle for work purposes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt quickly to different properties, residents and situations.
  • Ability to build positive professional relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • A genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable women.
  • Comfortable working with people with complex needs, including offending histories, substance misuse and experience of trauma.

Desirable:

  • Experience in supported accommodation, housing support, homelessness, women’s services, mental health, substance misuse, criminal justice or similar settings.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and risk management.
  • Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one).

What We Offer

  • £14.00 per hour.
  • Opportunity for additional hours, up to full-time, during periods of cover.
  • Flexible working pattern.
  • Company pension scheme.
  • Fuel allowance.
  • Annual company-wide team building.
  • Monthly staff development afternoons.
  • Birthday leave (taken from annual leave entitlement if desired).
  • A supportive, family-run organisation and friendly team.
  • The chance to help shape a growing service.

Genuine Occupational Requirement

This position is open to female applicants only, under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010. The postholder will work exclusively with female residents in women-only accommodation. The role involves lone working in residents’ homes, one-to-one support, welfare checks and supporting women who may have experienced abuse, exploitation or trauma. We consider that being a woman is an occupational requirement for this role and that the restriction is a proportionate means of meeting the needs of the residents we support.

Safeguarding

Verto Living is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults. All appointments are subject to satisfactory references, right-to-work checks and an Enhanced DBS check.
