Job Summary-Support Worker – Adult Day Service

We are looking for a passionate, caring and experienced Support Worker to join our friendly day service supporting adults with learning disabilities.

Our aim is to provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment where the people we support can socialise, develop their skills, build confidence and get the very best out of their time with us.

You will work alongside adults on a 1:1 basis and at times, within a group setting, providing personalised support and encouragement to take part in a wide range of activities and opportunities. Every day is different and the role is about supporting individuals to make choices, build independence, enjoy meaningful activities and have positive experiences within the service and the wider community.

Previous experience of working with adults with learning disabilities is essential for this role.

Working Hours & Benefits

• Monday to Friday- 9:30am–3:30pm -20-minute break during the working day
• No evening or regular weekend working – One offtraining sessions or monthly meetings may take place outside normal working hours, including at weekends –Advance notice will always be given.
• 4 weeks’ annual leave, plus set public holidays (Christmas and New Year closure – you will not be required to work over these days)
• All required training is fully paid
• TOIL (Time Off in Lieu) is accrued for meetings or other agreed commitments taking place outside your normal working hours

Key Responsibilities

As a Support Worker, you will:

• Provide person-centred support to adults with learning disabilities, both on a 1:1 basis and within group activities
• Support individuals to participate in a wide range of meaningful and enjoyable activities
• Support with Personal Care
• Encourage socialisation, communication, confidence and independence within a safe and supportive environment
• Build positive, respectful and trusting relationships with the people we support
• Support individuals to make choices and have their needs, preferences and goals respected
• Encourage participation in community activities and opportunities where appropriate
• Adapt activities and support to suit individual abilities, interests and needs
• Promote dignity, respect, choice and inclusion at all times
• Work as part of a supportive team to provide consistent and high-quality care
• Follow individual support plans, risk assessments and relevant procedures
• Maintain appropriate records and report any concerns or incidents in line with service procedures
• Contribute positively to the day-to-day running of the service and help create an enjoyable environment for everyone

Experience is essential. You must have previous experience supporting adults with learning disabilities or in a similar care, support or day service environment.

• Has genuine experience of supporting adults with learning disabilities
• Is caring, patient, reliable and approachable
• Understands the importance of person-centred support
• Can build positive relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
• Is confident providing 1:1 support as well as working with groups
• Can encourage and motivate individuals to participate in activities and social opportunities
• Is able to adapt their communication and approach to meet individual needs
• Has a positive and enthusiastic attitude
• Works well as part of a team but is also confident working independently
• Understands the importance of safeguarding, dignity, respect and confidentiality
• Is committed to helping the people we support get the most out of their time at the service
