Staff will be supporting our children and young people to live their lives by providing guidance and behavioural input to help them enjoy meaningful experiences while also developing strategies and approaches to enable them to navigate a world not necessarily created for their needs and diagnoses.
Working as a Support Worker for Zone Central will be challenging and rewarding in equal measure, and our Support Workers are required to show passion and compassion to young people and children with additional and complex needs, with a focus on seeing them achieve and thrive. Staff will also be expected to hold a high standard for support delivery in all aspects of their role as well as being fully aware of safeguarding policies, procedures and their duty to uphold these.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The support provided will be specific to each individual young person and will be based on their positive behaviour support plans, placement plan and risk assessments. Staff will also have consistent duties and responsibilities that must be completed in line with regulatory requirements and operational procedures. - Personal care – support with washing, dressing and going to the toilet
- Preparing meals, including managing dietary requirements such as allergies
- Domestic tasks such as cleaning and washing
- Shopping and managing finances
- Supporting health appointments and additional health requirements such as taking medication
- Attending an education facility such as a college
- Undertaking leisure activities like going to the cinema, the zoo, swimming or any clubs or other social event including holidays
- Planning trips and positive experiences as well as supporting family visits
- Helping develop communication and independence skills
- Recording relevant information in line with the appropriate regulations
- Working as part of a team, liaising with others on observations, taking part in handovers and meetings
- Attending professionals’ meetings for young people
How will you deliver this support?
To ensure your support is high quality, effective and delivered in a safe and stimulating environment, you will:
- Involve young people as much a possible when planning and doing activities
- Help our young people in meetings and social settings to ensure they are included, consulted and listened to
- Effectively safeguard the young people in line with Zone Central’s safeguarding policy
- Ensure confidentiality
- Ensure safety and wellbeing of the young people at all times
- Help our young people to do things they want to do
- Develop awareness of autism
- Increase understanding on behaviours that may challenge and how best to manage these effectively
- Record things appropriately in documents and during handovers
- Effectively communicate with colleagues and managers
- Respect people’s dignity and property
- Be alert to and challenge and report disrespectful behaviour, potential abuse and misconduct
- Attend and participate in your induction, training sessions and meetings
- Report any incidents or accidents that occur
