Corporate and Delivery Directorate works closely with the Home Office’s policy and operational commands to enable us together to deliver the department’s priorities. The directorate is comprised of different teams and professional functions, including Commercial, Finance, People, Portfolio and Project Delivery, Security, Estates and Information and Digital, Data and Technology.

As a Security supervisor you will provide effective operational supervision to the Security Guarding team to ensure the Physical Security of Home Office buildings, staff and assets are maintained at all times.

The Security Guarding Team within HO Security ensures robust physical security solutions are in place to protect Home Office buildings, staff and assets. We are responsible for security resources at Home Office building receptions, public caller units, reporting centres across the country in addition to the monitoring of the electronic security systems.

Security Supervisors are required to be able to read and absorb the security standing instructions implementing what has been read, ensuring it is followed and use available information to brief colleagues and plan ahead.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring compliance with all roles as set out in your job description and to the standards set out in the Units key performance indicators.
  • Carrying out all aspects of your role with a professional manner and positive attitude so that it portrays a professional and customer friendly image, to treat all public, staff and visitors with courtesy and respect at all times.
  • Providing helpful assistance and guidance to all customers, staff and internal / external stakeholders so that it promotes a positive and professional working relationship that proactively contributes’ to the work of the team and promotes business delivery.
  • Ensuring a strict Control of Entry to all Home Office buildings and Public Caller Units is maintained at all times and to strictly follow and adhere to the procedures and policies for these posts.
  • Remaining calm and professional when faced with conflict or dealing with non – compliant personnel or customers, calling for assistance from a supervisor / manager.
  • Ensuring all paperwork, log books, reports and incidents are written clearly and are completed within the set timescales.

Working Pattern

Due to the nature of the role, this post is available on a full-time basis only with shift working patterns, of a rolling rota inclusive of weekend and bank holiday working. This role may come with on-call expectations for which an allowance is payable.

Successful candidate will need to be able to attend for all shifts including early starts, late night finishes, and overnight shifts. These shifts may be outside of public transport operating hours.

Travel

Occasional travel may be required to other locations within the Home Office Security remit to fulfil business needs.

Person specification

Essential Criteria

  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of flexibility and successfully perform a range of multi-skilled duties.
  • Demonstrable experience of confidently managing difficult and challenging situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (both verbal and written).
  • Proven excellent IT skills – including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Demonstrable experience in maintaining a professional and customer-focused approach, with the ability to understand the needs of vulnerable customers.
  • Experience in security provision or a high-pressure customer-service environment and a commitment to the highest standards.
  • Proven experience working with a range of internal and external partners.
  • Full UK Manual/Automatic Driving Licence required.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in CCTV operations.
  • Experience in Customer service.

Licences

Due to the nature of the work driving is a key requirement for this role. Applicants must have a full valid UK manual/automatic driving licence.

If you are successful at sift stage, you will be invited to an interview that will be Behaviour (as listed in the job advert) based questions.
