FULL JOB DESCRIPTION
The Domiciliary Care worker works as part of a team providing personal, domestic, and social care at home to vulnerable individuals (including frail elderly, those with physical and learning disabilities, and mental health) and their carers.
The various tasks to be performed by the domiciliary care worker may cover all or some of the following according to the individual needs of the client assessed by the appropriate professionals.
Responsibilities
Personal Care as specified on the care plan for the service user. This includes assisting service users with all aspects of personal hygiene i.e. washing, shaving, showering, etc.
Assist service users with toileting, dressing/undressing, and feeding
Assist service users with mobility and transfer using correctly any specialized equipment provided.
Administer prescribed medication, only as directed by a qualified medical practitioner under the direction of a supervisor
Assist service users with therapeutic programs as directed by relevant professionals
Domestic Care when directed, maintains the cleanliness of the Service user’s home to ensure a safe environment set out in the health and safety requirements.
When directed by the supervisor, prepare meals, light fires, attend to laundry, and ensure a safe and hygienic environment.
Social Care actively encourages service users according to their capabilities in the care plan to participate in daily activities. To have the ability to listen and provide support to individual clients and carers.
Managing affairs under the direction of a supervisor, for example, collecting benefits, and shopping.
Collaboration with other personnel involved in the care of the service user i.e. G.P’s, Nurses, and Social Workers, etc.
General duties the domiciliary worker must maintain accurate and reliable information recorded in line with Strabane District Caring Services policies and procedures.
Participating in Induction programs and in-service training
Relevant administration (completion of timesheets, incident forms, activity sheets, etc)
Attending meetings (staff, assessment, team)
Adhere to and ensure safe practice according to health and safety procedures
Any other appropriate duties as directed by the Care Coordinator.
The confidentiality of the client must be maintained at all times.
To comply with training and development requirements set out by Strabane District Caring Services
Participate in the Induction program, attend in-service training, and update mandatory training when required.
To adhere to the Health and Safety policy and procedures set out by Strabane District Caring Services i.e. Domiciliary Care Regulations, National Minimum Standards, and Health and Safety at Work Act, etc.
The Domiciliary care worker must always liaise closely with the Supervisor, reporting any significant or unusual change i.e. accidents, incidents or illness, etc.
PLUS Mileage at 30p per Mile
Successful applicants must be willing to carry out Enhanced Access NI checks. Having a criminal conviction will not necessarily prohibit you from working with Strabane & District Caring Services. This will depend on the information provided and obtained from the disclosure certificate, as well as the position applied for. Desirable
6 months experience in the formal care setting
NVQ Level 2 in Care or equivalent
NISCC registered
Up-to-date Emergency First Aid
Up to date Moving and Handling
Up to date Food and Hygiene
6 months of formal experience
Additional Information
Two weeks alternating rota :
Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday
Week 2: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
